A Killer Zoom Meeting Costume
This costume combines the creepiness of Halloween and our weird new normal. Everyone may be bored to death of Zoom meetings, but watch out, this one…really kills. The Masked Murderer and her monster squad have found their next victim, you.
All the monsters on the perimeter were created by manipulating photos of my daughter in costume. The center of the grid is reserved for her and the “Next Victim” in the top spot was an iPad with a front-facing camera that features the unsuspecting homeowner.
In all seriousness, please stay extra safe this Halloween and wear a mask under your mask.
Behind the scenes
I kept the back side as simple as possible. Hot-glued paint sticks were used to anchor the hand straps to the board and an iPad was simply taped in place.
I can’t resist adding a few hidden jokes when I can. On the bottom of the Zoom window I changed the number of Participants, modified the Reactions icon and reworded “Share Screen” and “End Meeting For All?”

Halloween came and went and WOW the reactions to this costume blew me away! This costume was on CNN, Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Daily Show, NBC Nightly News and many, many more places. People.com wrote this beautiful article. I’m not crying, you’re…okay, I’m crying.
It was a whirlwind of excitement. My daughter asked me why it was so popular and I explained that it must’ve hit at the right time. With politics and the pandemic splitting the nation this costume was something that everyone could enjoy. I told her that we brought joy to millions of people and that’s pretty amazing. A Halloween costume that made the world a little better? Now that’s a treat way better than a full-size Snickers.
