Submissions for Gallery 1988

Hi, thank you for considering my work! I’ve submitted one of my pieces recently but after seeing your Instagram post asking for artist submissions I thought I’d send you more of my work. Enjoy!

Feature 1

Chewie’s New ‘Do

Vintage barbershop haircut signs were my inspiration in creating unique hairstyles for everyone's favorite wookiee, Chewbacca. Let's face it, while he has a great personality, Chewie's hair is due for an overhaul. The poster features four modern hairstyle options drawn in a vintage style. For the text I chose to use the word ‘do as an abbreviation for hairdo so I could put a twist to Yoda’s famous quote, “Do or do not, there is no try." Adding two little apostrophes now changes it into a statement about hair, ‘Do or ‘do not, there is no try. This new credo is a calling for Chewie to be brave and express himself with his massive mane. I personally like the complete craziness of The Walking Carpet.

Feature 2

Masters of the Thrones

Let’s face it, Game of Thrones is really just He-Man for adults. I thought it’d be fun to bring two characters from each of the fantasy worlds together. If you ask me, I think a metaverse mashup should’ve been how the series ended.

Feature 3

He-Man Character Poster

I loved the look of all the Masters of the Universe characters so much that I put them all together on one poster. Also included is a painting of He-Man training Battlecat.

Feature 4

Overboard

The scene is from the classic 80s movie, Overboard. Post chainsaw incident, a traumatized Goldie Hawn could only mutter “buh, buh, buh.” I painted it on a piece plywood to pay homage to Kurt Russell’s carpenter character in the movie. The only part that I didn’t paint was the hair. I wanted the sheen of the plywood to represent Goldie’s golden hair. It almost gives it a metallic look in person. I had my kids write the words because in that scene she was being tormented by children.

Feature 5

Wooden Gremlins

Adorable and still incredibly vulnerable to water.

Feature 6

Intergalactic Robot

This Beastie Boys inspired creation was originally created as a Valentines box for my son but I could easily recreate with more solid construction. I really just loved the proportions on this piece and there’s something endearing about the robot floppy arms.

Feature 7

StormTrumper

I know that your gallery doesn’t vear into politics but I’m too proud of this piece of pop-culture art to not share it.

This sculpture was picked up by CNET and freaked out countless people all over the world. One of those people was Mark Hamill himself.
